Biography

Qiuchen Wang is an active percussion performer and enthusiastic music educator. Born and raised in China, she is now based in the United States and has performed extensively in China, Canada, and the U.S.
Ms. Wang earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in China, studying under Prof. Anthony Gonzalez. She continued her studies in the United States, receiving a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a scholarship, under the guidance of Prof. John Beck. In 2017, she moved to Canada, where she pursued a Graduate Diploma in Performance at McGill University on scholarship, studying with Fabrice Marandola, Ben Reimer, and Shawn Mativetsky. She further completed her Advanced Certificate in Performance at the University of Toronto, studying with Aiyun Huang, Beverly Johnston, and John Rudolph.
After her academic training, Ms. Wang relocated to Seattle, where she is currently a percussion and piano instructor at the Seattle Drum School. She has served as the principal percussionist of the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and performed with Orchestra Seattle, the Ensign Symphony and Chorus, Philharmonia Northwest, and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra.
Earlier in her career, from 2009 to 2011, Ms. Wang performed with the National Orchestra in Guangdong Province, collaborating with many distinguished artists. Representing the Xinghai Conservatory, she also traveled to Hong Kong and Macau for symphonic performances. In China, she appeared frequently in television broadcasts, cultural exchange programs, conferences, and major concert series across the country.
In addition to her performance career, Ms. Wang has been deeply committed to music education. Since 2010, she has taught at institutions such as IPAC (International Percussive Arts and Modern Music Center), DaYa Music Education Alliance, and DunShan Culture and Arts Training Center. She was honored as an "Excellent Teacher" at the 2014 South China Wind & Percussion Solo & Chamber Music Invitational Competition.
Ms. Wang has actively participated in renowned workshops and festivals, including the Leigh Howard Stevens 37th Summer Marimba Seminar, PASIC 2016 (as a recipient of the Cloyd Duff Scholarship), Nief-Norf Festival 2017, and the Atlantic Music Festival 2018 (as a fellowship recipient). In 2019, she served as a professional judge for the Guangdong International Percussion Art Festival.
Previously, she was a full-time percussionist with the Beijing Performance Production Center of Guangdong Province TV Station and an esteemed teacher at the Canada Music Academy. With over a decade of teaching experience and a Teacher’s Certificate in Music Education, Ms. Wang continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of musicians.
